After a minute or so of hurrying through the tunnels, and miraculously not bumping into any walls, Black Star halts. "Ravven, I'll need you to get off my back for a moment." Upon Ravven's compliance, Black Star places one of his hands in a posture of meditation, places the other one on the wall, takes a deep breath, then exhales. His breathing slows so much as to be barely noticeable. Black Star's senses heighten. He becomes aware of the faint vibrations of his comrade's pulses transmitted through the wires on their wrists. He expands his senses outward, seeking the exit.

Black Star lets out a contempt-filled snort. "Hah! As if you could weigh down me, the great Black Star! Yahoo!" With that, Black Star takes off, dragging Rat Boy along. Kayaba's voice calls from both ends of the corridor you are in. "I will be reading the complete works of William Snakespear (in this universe, the author of Twilight) while I wait. I sincerely hope you will enjoy the clue." Rat Boy grits his teeth. "Echoes. Or speakers. Probably the latter. We should probably ignore his voice at all times. If he's this willing to torture us, then he's just as likely to try and mislead us. Although I'm not convinced that that won't be worse than our current leadership. Please tell me you're following some kind of super intuition and not just picking turns at random, Star."

A situation pops into Ravvens head while Rat Boy questions their current plan.
"What will we do if we run into other contestants down here? If we eliminated them, we could put ourselves in a more favorable position. However, how do you two feel about 'eliminating' other contestants?"

Rat Boy muses for a while, then speaks up, "I've killed more than enough, but never unnecessarily. It's a waste of energy, energy we might need later." He looks around, and then down at Black Star. "We better be on our guard, though. Star here is a little vulnerable."

Black Star's breathing returns to normal. "I know which way it is now. Hop on, Ravven." Upon his compliance, Black Star again sets out at breakneck speed throughout the maze, miraculously avoiding running into walls.

Ravvens notices that the instructors voice starts sounding closer.
"Maybe the instructor is actually at the end of the maze and it isn't a trap. Regardless, we should be prepared for traps near the end, I wouldn't put it past them to try and kill us right before we get to the end of the maze."

Black Star suddenly stops, then reaches forward and gropes along the wall in front of him. After a few seconds, he finds a handle, and the group tumbles through.

They land in a pile directly in front of Kayaba. He gestures at them to continue along the corridor, giving them a thumbs up. he then continues to read Twilight at the top of his lungs into a speaker.

Black star clasps his hands behind his head and grins at his companions as they walk down the hallway. Once a sign on the wall indicates they can talk again, he yawns loudly.

Upon reaching the next room, they see several other people that made it out of the maze. They take a seat against a wall and wait for the remainder of the time limit as others trickle in. Finally, the clock on the wall reaches zero, and Kayaba Akihiko enters the room. "Gentlemen. Your next challenge is to fight each other." orted gasps and mutters rise from the candidates. "This fight is merely to weed out the weaker among you. You will fight until one surrenders or I deem one unable to continue. You are not to intentionally kill your opponent, although you will not be dropped from the exam if they die of wounds sustained. Are there any questions?"
Either through a good explanation or shellshock, there are no questions. "Very well then," Kayaba continues. "The first pair is numbers 97 and 391." He makes a gesture towards the middle of the room. Once the contestants stand there, a cage lowers from the ceiling to enclose around an octagonal area around 50 feet from apex to apex. A bell sounds, and the candidates begin fighting. It's a short fight. Number 97, a large burly man wielding an appropriately large knife, makes quick work of number 391, a slender girl armed with several throwing knives.
"Numbers 88 and 145," Kayaba calls. Ravven strides into the middle of the room and faces his opponent, a young man of medium build armed with a pair of curved short swords. The cage lowers, and the bell rings.

Chyura is strong, but maybe his opponent is stronger, yes? Chyura will be a hunter. Number 145 will not stop Chyura."

Ravven sighs and stands still, waiting for Chyura to come to him. After 5 seconds of staring at each other, Chyura charges Ravven and pulls out a dagger, aiming for Ravvens heart.
At the last second, Ravven sidesteps and there is a flash as a short piece of wire appears in his hands. He wraps it around Chyura's neck and moves it back and forth quickly. He then drops the wire and walks towards the winner zone as Chyura drops to the ground gurgling as blood pours from his neck.

"Next up are numbers 37 and 143," Kayaba says.
Rat Boy goes to the middle of the room and finds his opponent waiting there. His opponent doesn't appear very strong physically, but twirls two revolvers in his hands and gives Rat Boy a smile that is anything but friendly.

Rat Boy slowly pulls out his katana, murmuring to himself, "Guns. I hate guns."
Overhearing his complaint, Number 37 throws his head back and guffaws loudly. "Guess you just got an unlucky match, loser. Give up, or I'll..." He looks down at his abdomen in numb shock to see the katana lodged firmly in his gut.
Eyes slowly glazing over, Number 37 weakly raises one of his guns and squeezes off a round before collapsing on the floor. Rat Boy leans out of the bullet's path before approaching the corpse and removing his sword.

After a few other matches are fought, the announcer calls out, "Number 144 and Number 2." A creature, approximately 13 feet tall but covered by a large cloak, stands up and silently stalks into the arena. Once in the center, it announces, in a hideously gravely yet austere voice, " I am Chytrin, the Nen leech. Whoever my opponent may be, I wish them to know that they stand no chance against me. They shall depart, and spare me much time. So that they may see that this is no idle boast..." Chytrin tosses his cloak aside, and all the Hunter aspirants inhale sharply in surprise.
